…But this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before. ( Phil 3:13)
It is a misnomer to think that failures, setbacks, misfortunes, disappointments and regrets from the past are not a part of life. Fortunate of enough it is. Most individuals know what it’s like to endure the overhang of the past but too few of us know what to do about it. So many of go along to get along thinking that things will somehow get better.
But it never happens that way. In fact, the passing of time often leaves us in worse condition—not better. Because, instead of putting those painful failures behind, we often dwell on them until they become more real to us than the promises of God. We focus on them so until we become mindlessly depressed, mortified in fear that if we go on, we’ll only fail again.
Past misfortunes have a way of continuing to show up in life and bring doubt that you can’t do this and you can’t do that because the last time you stepped out to do something different you failed. That is a mere lie from the pit of hell. Succeeding and failing is a part of life. There is no one on this side of planet earth that has got everything right the first time. In order to succeed in life and get things right you have to be cognitive of what not to do…
If depression and reservation has driven you into a spiritual nose dive, break out of it by getting your spiritual eyes off the past and on the future—a future that has been guaranteed by Christ Jesus through the great and precious promises in His Word.
Forget about those failures in the past! God has according to Heb 8:12. And if He doesn’t remember them anymore, why are you still having anniversaries about them?
The Bible plainly lets us know that God’s mercies are new every morning. So we should learn to take God at His Word, you can wake up every morning with the opportunity for a brand new do-over. You can live your life totally unhindered by the past.
Allow the Holy-Spirit to empower you to replace the thoughts of yesterday’s mistakes with scriptural promises about your future. As you learn to do this hope will spawn! The inseparable companion of Faith!
Amen.
